Lee, of Dillon, MT, was born in The Dalles, Oregon, moving at age three to Sheridan, MT, where he was raised by his mother, Shirley Felton, and adopted by Frank Spuhler.

Lee married Donna DesRosier, on April 2, 1954, and had two sons, Brian and Kevin.

Lee was very passionate about education, graduating from Sheridan High School in 1951, receiving his bachelor’s, and then master’s in education, with guidance and counseling, in Missoula. His academic career began in 1955, in Fromberg, then Sheridan, then as counselor and vice principal in Isabella, CA. He then was recruited to Western Montana College in 1977 as Dean of Continuing Education, starting night school, summer school, Elderhostel and outreach programs to Boulder and Warm Springs. He also brought outdoor education to Birch Creek along with the mentor, mentee program in this state.

Lee enjoyed camping, hunting (especially waterfowl), sporting events and loved to identify wildflowers.
