Sandra (Sandee) South Whitehead

Sandra (Sandee) South Whitehead, 65, went home to her Lord on April 27, in Lewistown. She had been a patient at the CMMC Hospice House since December 27, 2016 (four months), when complications from colon cancer ended her stay on earth way too soon.

She enjoyed many blessings and had some challenges in the many chapters of her history book. Before the term “Superwoman” became popular, she was already living like one. On March 23, 1968, in Dillon, Sandee married Clark Whitehead from Townsend. They started their family the following year. She and Clark have four daughters, a son-at-heart and seven grandchildren.

Throughout her life she worked as a clothing store clerk, ironed clothes for other people, ran a daycare inside of their home, delivered newspapers, stocked books/magazines at several local stores, waitressed and became secretary at a local church. Now for the “Superwoman” part—Sandee made time to volunteer with Beta Sigma Rho (women’s sorority) and the Sea Lion Swim Team, and as a Brownie Troop leader, 4-H club assistant leader and for the Salvation Army. She was a beautiful seamstress and an incredible baker. She also was a devoted dance-sports-music mom, caretaker of her parents and helped care for two boys who needed her love; all the while making homemade meals for her family and being a wife, too!

She enjoyed her arts and crafts, loved to read, doing puzzles, bowling and flower gardening. Health challenges came early in her life, which slowed her down but never stopped her! What is a mom/wife/friend? Look into her heart and love of family and friends and you will witness it first-hand. The love Clark and Sandee had was beautiful and unparalleled. Their deep devotion to each other was always noticed. They recently celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary on March 23. Her one piece of advice is: “the moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.”

She is survived by: her husband, Clark, of Lewistown; daughters Rhonda (Mike) Bodvig, from Billings, LeOrla (Lance) Wright, of Cloudcroft, NM, Taunya Whitehead, from Billings, and Kara (Michael) Wilde, from Bothell, WA; and son-at-heart, Kyle (Lacey) Faulkner, from Great Falls; sisters Dixie (Bill) Cottom, of Dillon, and Connie Davis, of Great Falls; brothers Dean (Donna) South, of Helena and Dennis (Evelyn) South, from Albuquerque NM; seven grandchildren, Emily and Dylan Bodvig, Wyatt and Dalton Wright, Arianna and Ethan Wilde, Kailynn Faulkner; and special nephew Cory South, of Houston, TX, as well as several nieces and other nephews.

Sandee was preceded in death by: her parents, Lee and Orla South, of Dillon; and brother-in-law Ed Davis, from Great Falls.

An informal gathering of friends and family will be held in the Elks Lodge in Dillon on Saturday June 17, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cremation has taken place (Sandee was an organ donor), Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers and meals, please consider a donation to CMMC Hospice House in Lewistown or to a charity of your choice.
