UMW's Jones wins national award

Powering forward. UMW's Brandon Jones muscles home a basket against Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday on his way to winning the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Player of the Week award.

In honor of a pair of dominating performances against Frontier Conference foes last week, University of Montana Western forward Brandon Jones earned the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Player of the Week award.

The 6-foot-5-inch powerhouse gained the honor for his performances against Frontier Conference foes Montana Tech and Lewis-Clark State College.

Jones hauled down 16 rebounds and scored 23 points against Tech in Butte on Thursday, despite playing much of the game with four fouls.

Saddled with four fouls again two nights later on Western’s home court in Dillon, the junior transfer out of Texas recorded 14 rebounds, 17 points and 3 blocks against Lewis-Clark State College.

Jones also got the nod as the Frontier Conference Player of the Week for his efforts.
