Montana Western men's and women's basketball teams earn at-large bids to next week's national tourneys

The brackets are out.

And, as expected, both the University of Montana Western men’s and women’s basketball teams are in.

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs each gained at-large bids to their respective national tournaments, the fields for which were unveiled tonight.

Ranked no. 14 in the final NAIA Coaches’ Poll released earlier in the day, the Lady Bulldogs earned the fourth seed in the Duer Bracket and a first-round game with no. 19 Dillard (LA) next Wednesday, March 14, starting at 1:45 p.m. MST.

A first-round win in the 32-team tournament in Billings would advance the Western women to a Sweet 16 date at 10:45 a.m. on Friday with the winner of the first-round game between Faulkner and bracket top seed Campbellsville.

Despite a no. 11 finish in the final NAIA Coaches Poll released yesterday, the Montana Western men team also got put onto a difficult stretch of road in Kansas City, where the entire men's tourney will again be played this year.

The #3 in their tourney’s Duer Bracket, the Dawgs will play their first-round game just after breakfast time, at 9:45 a.m. MST, on Thursday, March 15, against the Southwestern Assemblies of God University—the Texas team that halted the Dawgs’ deepest run into the national tourney with an Elite Eight loss in 2013.

A victory in the opening round in Kansas City would send the Western men to a Friday 3 p.m. MST faceoff with the survivor of the game between Columbia (MO) and second-seeded Campbellsville, which finished the season ranked sixth in the nation in the NAIA men's poll.
